School Committee

The Greek School of Manchester Constitution clearly states that “The charity trustees (School Committee) shall manage the affairs of the CIO and may for that purpose exercise all the powers of the CIO.”

With that in mind, the School Committee will be responsible for:
- writing and maintaining the policies that govern and guide the School
- approving and monitoring the School budget
- appointing and managing the Headteacher and all teaching and supporting staff

The members of the School Committee will exercise their powers and perform their functions in ways that further the purposes of the School as these are set out both in the Greek School of Manchester Constitution and in the annual School plans agreed by its members.

The founding School Committee members (Charity Trustees) are:

- Mrs Eve Koutidou, President
Eve Koutidou is President of the School Committee. She was born in Veroia, Greece and has been living in Manchester since 2006. Eve studied International & European Studies at the University of Piraeus and came to the UK in 2005 to obtain her MA in International Security & Terrorism. While studying for her Postgraduate Degree, Eve worked as a teacher at the Greek Community School of Nottingham. Since moving to Manchetser, she has been working at Manchester University Hospitals in various capacities, most recently in Estates & Facilities Operations. Eve is married and has two children aged 6 and 2.

- Mrs Athina Angelopoulou, Vice-President
Athena Angelopoulou is Vice President of the School Committee. She was born in Athens, has studied Medicine and s
he holds a Ph.D. from the Medical School of Athens University. She has also been a Lecturer in Medicine in Athens University Medical School. Athena works as an NHS Consultant Doctor in Geriatric Medicine and she is married with two children aged 16 and 13.

- Mrs Ioanna Vasileiadou, Treasurer
Ioanna Vasiliadou is Treasurer of the GSM School Committee. She is an experienced, enthusiastic and focused SEND teacher committed to safeguarding and promoting the education and well-being of children and young people. Ioanna has a Masters in Special Education Needs and Disabilities and has been working with special education needs children for the past 10 years. The last 3 years she has been teaching children with autism and spectrum conditions. Ioanna has a Greek Sign Language Qualification and has a Certificate of Braille. Ioanna  is also a volunteer escort for people with Autism spectrum disorders.

- Mrs Chrysoula Skoufou, General Secretary
Chrysoula Skoufou is General Secretary of the School Committee. She studied at the Department of Preschool Education and Training Sciences of the Aristotle University. Chrysoula has taught summer classes at the municipality of Thermi, Thessaloniki, and last year she was teaching year A1 at Speak Greek. In recent years, Chrysoula has been living in Bolton with her husband and their three children. She enjoys running, reading and embroidering.

- Mrs Penny Yiota Preka Clarke, Member
Penny Yiota Preka Clarke is Member of the School Committee. She is a full-time working mother of two from Athens, Greece, currently living in Cheshire as part of a bilingual family. Yiota has studied Communication on an Undergraduate and Postgraduate Level in Greece and the UK as well as Accounting and Finance. She currently works in Corporate Tax. Yiota dreams of an independent, inclusive school in Manchester that will teach the Greek language in an interactive and fun way whilst celebrating all backgrounds and cultures. Yiota enjoys baking, volunteering for causes that she is passionate about and tries to teach her children Greek via conversation, reading and singing.

The School Committee members are elected / appointed at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) by the members of the Greek School of Manchester for a 12 month term.

The date of the first Annual General Meeting of the School members will be announced in due course.
